CW, NET Protocol, A Hobby For Life
As an OF of 71, I’ve been on-air for 57 years…since the age of 14. For me, it all started as a Boy Scout learning to build a simple “oatmeal box” crystal radio project. Former calls: WN5BQI (’62), WA5BQI (’63-76), DA2ER & DL5AG (’70-73), and DL/K5XK, OE/K5XK, & HB0/K5XK (2011) during a 40 year reunion with old DL friends. Wow, what a hobby!
My XYL Debbie (N5WEX, not active) and I live in a former resort & retirement area in the foothills of the Ozark Mountains. Our QTH is Benton County, AR, grid locator EM26uk, on the AR/MO border in extreme NW Arkansas.
As a longtime Ten-Tec fan, the gear currently includes a Ten-Tec OMNI VII transceiver and sometimes an Ten-Tec Hercules II solid state QSK amp. Sad to report, my beloved 2 el 5 band HF Quad needs to be removed. What a great antenna! The fiberglass spreaders are just too service-intensive here! After a rebuild and numerous repairs, I’m moving on.
I favor CW, but also ragchew on SSB (hosting a local & regional 3820 Roundtable on 75 Meters on Sundays @ 1600 CT. We’re joined regularly by a large number of “Who’s Who” hams from around the 4-States area of AR/MO/OK/KS. We always have interesting participants & lively discussion topics. Join us!
I also casually chase DX, enjoy Field Day & an occasional Contest.
Former DXCC Honor Roll member. Current member ARRL, FOC (#1641), and locally am a member of various local radio clubs.
